Anxiety can show up in many ways based on the individual, including constant worry, anxiousness, restlessness, nervousness, feeling overwhelmed, intrusive or cycling thoughts, or even self-doubt. Most people experience anxiety at one time or another. You may have even heard that some anxiety is healthy, which is accurate because the rush of adrenaline signals our body of danger or provides additional strength. However, chronic anxiety can lead to health problems because our body remains in a place of readiness to fight or flee. Being constantly anxious creates a constant release of adrenaline in our bodies, our mind is constantly active (racing with thoughts), and our bodies have a difficult time slowing down or resting (constantly on the move). Each person presents anxiety in a different way. Some may appear nervous all the time, irritable, have difficulty focusing, trembling, sweating, racing heart or dizziness. Further, individuals may be talkative or withdrawn or experience tense muscles, fatigue and insomnia, or high blood pressure.

Anxiety commonly appears as feelings of restlessness, fatigue, irritability, lack of focus and concentration, worry, sleep disturbances, and/or muscle tension.

Depression

Depression commonly manifests physically, through stomach pains, headaches, disrupted or excessive sleep, and motor control difficulty. While the causes of depression are unknown, a predisposition for it runs in families and it can be triggered by trauma and adverse life circumstances. Depression is diagnosed more frequently in women and tends to display differently in women than in men.

    • Apathy

    • Guilt

    • Irritability
